Joanie’s Great Trip
Joanie is a 10 year-old girl who has had cerebral palsy since birth. In September 2010, she underwent an osteotomy - an operation to the bones - which earned her to have 70% of her body in a cast! After experiencing these difficult times surrounded by her mother and her older sister Laurianne, Joanie was able to realize her most heartfelt wish to go a Disney land and sea cruise. Joanie and her family never would have imagined having so much fun. Her mother confided that she had never seen her daughter so happy. Ocean, beaches, rides, water slides, Joanie tried everything! As she is unable to walk by herself, she even had the chance to be escorted by her mother who carried her in her arms and climbed 14 flights of stairs so Joanie could try the water slide that goes down around the boat! This exceptional trip, according to the whole family, will serve as a benchmark in difficult times.
Lydia Meets Her Idol
When she was only two months old, Lydia was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a fatal genetic disease. Now aged 14, Lydia had the chance to fulfill a dream she cherished for a long time: she met her idol Céline Dion in Las Vegas! Lydia made the trip with her mother and grandmother. The trio was able to meet Céline and talk with her a few minutes after the show and then take pictures with the star. Lydia stayed at the Ceasar's Palace, where there are six swimming pools and a huge spa, a fantastic place for a water lover like her. Moreover, she had the chance to live the extraordinary experience of swimming with dolphins at a nearby hotel. Lydia returned from Las Vegas with a head full of wonderful memories!
Samuel Discovers Ancient Greece
Samuel has just returned from Greece. This big fellow of 18 with Friedreich's ataxia was eight years old when he was diagnosed with this terrible disease after a consultation for scoliosis. The ataxia is a degenerative condition, so Samuel must now move about in a wheelchair. But it doesn’t prevent him to have beautiful dreams! Samuel contacted Children's Wish himself to see if his most heartfelt wish could be granted. This history and geography enthusiast wanted to go to Greece! So, accompanied by his parents, sister, brother and godfather, he discovered historic monuments, small villages and large rock pillars in this mythical country. A private guide and a small bus helped Samuel and his family move around as the wheelchair couldn’t go everywhere. Samuel loved everything about his trip, the food as much as the visits. But his favorite site was the Meteora monasteries, where monks live perched on top of giant rock pillars!
Samuel’s trip of a lifetime to Paris
Eleven year-old Samuel’s dream was to visit Paris. He wanted to discover the museums of the City of Light, visit the Palace of Versailles and see for himself if indeed there was a restaurant at the top of the famous Eiffel Tower after he had heard about it on the Simpson’s TV show! Samuel suffers from a cerebral tumour and realized his dream with his little brother and his parents. A enthusiast of anything motorized, Samuel concluded his week long dream vacation with a trip from Paris to London on the TGV, the French high-speed train!
Moreover, he had the chance to live an incredible experience just before taking off for Paris. He was treated to a complete visit of the Montreal airport. He went into the control tower, inspected the runways with the firemen, witnessed a demonstration with a sniffer dog and visited the airport’s hawk house!
